Native to south eastern Australia this tree tolerates dry conditions once established. The masses of flowers are a food source for bees and insects and are produced over a long period from spring to autumn. The dense canopy of leaves provides cool shade in summer. The seeds are edible after roasting to remove the irritating hairs, (take care when doing this not to get any hairs in your eyes and wear gloves).
