Product Details

One of our favourite plants for dry shaded areas in the garden, and very rarely for sale. The pale blue flowers on long stalks resemble orchids and are a joy to see in the early spring garden. Decorative and hardy, Iris japonica grows well in shady areas of the garden where other things struggle to grow. The leaves are bright green, lush and need little attention, apart from cutting back after flowering. This evergreen plant grows well in shade, although flowering better with some dappled light, and copes with dry conditions so is ideal for growing under deciduous trees. Plant drifts under deciduous trees to create naturalised drifts of pale blue spring flowers. Grows well with other acid loving plants such as azaleas and camellias.

The iris plant is shipped bare rooted. The leaves are clipped as in the photos so that when it is newly planted the iris will be more stable and less likely to blow over in windy weather.

Plant orders are shipped via express post early in the week so the plant arrives in the best possible condition and is not left over the weekend in a transport depot.

Please unpack as soon as possible and either heel in, pot up or plant in the garden straight away, watering well with diluted seaweed solution.

Note: due to quarantine restrictions we are unable to post plants to Tasmania, NT and WA.
