Cultivation notes

Evergreen shrubs and trees from 1.2 m to 7 m high. Tolerant of sun or shade and a variety of soil types. Can tolerate drying out but grow and fruit best with regular watering. Prune after fruiting to keep plants bushy. Good edible hedge and screening plant.

Uses

Fruits can be white, pink or purple when they ripen from late summer to winter. Size and taste varies. Eat raw, removing large seed, add to salad or fruit salad, preserve as jam, cordial or pickles, or add to slow cooked meals.
